Catholic Central is the home of the Board's System Music Program. The program is open to students from St. Mary Choir School. Other student's will be considered if space is available (these students must contact the school to arrange for auditions).

Students can choose the Vocal Program and/or the String Program.

MUSIC EXTENSION: ORCHESTRAL STRING

AMS1OX Orchestral String Music, Grade 9, Extension Program
CCH’s “Extension Music Program” is designed primarily for students graduating from the St. Mary Choir and Orchestra Program who are committing to a two year intensive program; however, students who have had significant vocal and/or string music training are eligible to register for this course, provided they pass a proficiency performance examination.  This course is performance based, concentrating on advance string music of various time periods.
This course alternates on a day one/day two schedule through the ENTIRE academic year.

AMS2OX Orchestral String Music, Grade 10, Extension Program
This course is a continuation of the “Extension Program” and emphasizes performance of orchestral string music at an advanced level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill.  Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively.  Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology and history.
This course alternates on a day one/day two schedule through the ENTIRE academic year. Recommended background: AMS 1OX or AMS 1OR.

AMS3M Orchestral String Music, Grade 11, University/College Preparation
This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis and performance of various kinds of instrumental music, including baroque and classical music, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music.  Students will perform technical exercises and appropriate repertoire, complete detailed creative activities, and analyse and evaluate live and recorded performances.  They will continue to increase their understanding of the elements of music while developing their technical and imaginative abilities.  Students will also learn to play a secondary string instrument.
Prerequisite: AMS 1O or AMS 2O.  It is recommended that both 1O AND 2O be taken first.

AMS4M Orchestral String Music, Grade 12, University/College Preparation
This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis and performance of string music from the romantic period and the twentieth century, including art music, jazz, popular music and Canadian and non-Western music.  Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently at an advanced level on their stringed instruments.
Prerequisite: AMS 3M1

AMV4M Vocal Music, Grade 12, University/College Preparation
This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis and performance of string music from the romantic period and the twentieth century, including art music, jazz, popular music and Canadian and non-Western music.  Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently at an advanced level.  They will also complete complex creative projects
